PRE-PHYSICAL THERAPY PRIMARY ADVISERS: Fledia Ellis (ext. 6020) PROGRAM GOAL: This program is designed to prepare students for upper division studies in physical therapy. In Florida, the physical therapy programs are five years in length and lead to M.S. degrees in physical therapy: The UF, FAMU, UCF, UNF, and FIU offer degrees in physical therapy. All schools require that students successfully complete the courses listed below. The programs are highly competitive, so students are advised to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, although a higher GPA is needed to meet minimum standards at some of the schools. Students must also complete volunteer time under the supervision of a registered physical therapist. Some schools also require their applicant to take the Allied Health Professions Admissions Test. Check with the program adviser for more details. Graduates from schools of physical therapy are in great demand to manage rehabilitative programs for people suffering from a variety of illnesses and injuries.
For the following courses, students have several options to meet the needed requirement. See page 38 for the potential courses.
